Yoran’s story

Yoran is almost blind and works at the Bakkerwerkplaats as an apprentice bread baker. His contract expires this month and to extend it it is necessary for him to take on more activities in the Bakkerswerkplaats.

Yoran started as a volunteer at the Bakkerswerkplaats Rotterdam after 8 years at home. He started with three days and that took some getting used to at first. But he is a fast learner and has mastered bread making. His enthusiasm and motivation also grew and to further stimulate this positivity, he was offered a one-year contract.

After a 3-year practical training, Yoran can now bake and make dough himself. Yoran has already been offered several tools to do his work. At the start of his contract, a large mobile smartphone was purchased for him. This allows him to have the recipes read out to him. They also have a scale that reads out the weights.

But to take the next step in his learning process, it is useful that he learns to enter orders and orders into the computer. Previously, they did this completely manually with emails, text messages, WhatsApp and handwritten messages. Because Yoran cannot read all that, it is necessary to purchase real baking software for him.

This has been made possible thanks to the Triodos Bank Impact Package. A Bake-it software program has been purchased, with which Yoran has many advantages. He can now print out all orders and baking lists himself. This will take him a step further and he can certainly take up more activities. Yoran is happy in the Bakkerswerkplaats and wants to continue working and, above all, learning for many years to come.
