The story of Ismail
Ismail’s life got off to a false start. He left school early, became caught up with the wrong crowd, and eventually came into contact with the justice system. What followed was a period of simply surviving: homeless, sleeping on a bench on the subway platform, with no sense of direction or hope for the future. But somewhere in the middle of all that uncertainty, he realised: something had to change.
Through a night shelter, Ismail decided to embrace every form of support he could get. With guidance from RRA Works, he began rebuilding his life, one step at a time. He was introduced to Road Rebels. For the first time in a long time, he truly felt heard and seen.
“We don’t look back, we look ahead,” his coach told him. “What do you want — and what is possible?”
Those words gave Ismail not only an opportunity, but also the confidence to believe he was worthy of it. Driven by determination, he worked towards his biggest dream: becoming a truck driver. And now, that dream has become a reality. He earned his Category C driving licence and is ready to hit the road — with not only a steering wheel in his hands, but also the wheel of his own future.
Where he was once lost and struggling, there now stands a cheerful, positive man: an inspiration to his fellow Rebels. Ismail looks ahead with confidence. The road is open, and he is more than ready for what lies ahead.
